Bookcase Editions To Publish First Novel Using Print On Demand Technology
|
|
Bookcase Editions Limited, the new publishing arm of independent bookshop The Bookcase, is pleased to publish One, the debut novel by local author and Nottingham English teacher, Nigel Pickard. The book will be published as a paperback original on 21st February 2005.
One centres on the relationship between Sol Roberts, his wife Kate, and their severely autistic son, Tom. Pickard, whose own son has the condition, says "One impulse for writing the novel was to explore the effect that having a child with classic autism has on a family, and to move away from the typical focus of more acceptable versions of the disorder like Asperger's Syndrome."
One is Pickard's first novel. His poetry collection, Making Sense, was published by Shoestring Press in 2003. He is currently working on his second novel. Nigel is available for interview.
Jane Streeter from Bookcase Editions said, " As soon as I read Nigel's manuscript I knew it had to be our first novel. It is stunning - a beautifully written and sensitively handled portrayal of a man's struggle to make sense of his life. We are very proud to publish it."
David Taylor, Managing Director of Lightning Source UK Ltd. added, "It's great to see a new publisher like Bookcase Editions using print on demand to bring a first novel to the market. By printing to demand, a publisher can publish books in areas that are traditionally hard to get to market."
